Are You Supposed to Tip Plumbers?
Is tipping a plumber & other tradesmen expected? I mean you tip the local, part-time, teenage pizza delivery guy. Why not the more experienced men & women in the trades? It depends on a couple of factors. But, usually it is not expected or even allowed to accept tips from customers because it is against company policy. When a contractor comes out to share his estimate for a job with you, usually that is the full amount he needs/wants to satisfy the materials/labor used. Do not worry much, because I promise that the companies usually do not allow their employees to even receive tips. Just like Carter’s!
Some people may feel bad if they do not offer to tip their local tradesmen. That is okay. Many people do! I am sure that if you offered to share your money to a plumber that you know personally, even if it is not allowed within their workplace to be tipped, they will respectfully decline the offer. So do not feel bad! They will get paid.
Should You Tip Plumbers?
“Should I tip my plumber?”, is a good question. You tip the waitress for their work & you tip the Uber driver for their ride. So do you tip a tradesman for his work done? Some companies may allow their technicians to be tipped. But, maybe not. This generous gesture isn’t just for techs! This goes for every man & women in the trades (e.i. electricians, HVAC, mechanics). If you are unsure, a thing to do is call the business to make sure it is allowed.
Do Plumbers Get Tips?
If the plumber is self employed, or is a full blown general contractor, he (or she) as well probably does not expect to get tipped at the end of the job. The price given whether at the beginning or end of the job factors in their materials/labor. But, it does not hurt to want to know if it is expected.
Being in the this position is can be uncomfortable. Do you say, “here is a tip for your work?”, and get denied? Or do you not even try to give the extra change? Again, I think the best thing anyone can do is just ask! Majority of the time it will not be asked for.
Do You Tip Plumbers?
It varies on how specific techs are paid & how their company delegates their incoming revenue. Some techs are paid by the hour, a commission, some are both! It varies by business but the main thing is is that they are in fact getting paid. Tipping the service person is a nice gift & it may help them tremendously financially. Just search & figure out who needs tipped.
If you really want to give the worker a niece parting gift, but aren’t sure if it’s permitted, just ask! I guess it would be okay to offer them a bottle of water, soda, or maybe a hot homemade chocolate chip cookie. It is kind of hard to turn down a hot chocolate chip cookie so that might be enough to make a service man happy!
Do Carter’s My Plumber Employees Expect Tips?
No. Not even a little bit.
It is not allowed for our tech to even take them. Our prices include in their labor/material expenses & is dispersed on their payday. We know even the littlest jobs can be considered expensive in some households. So, keep your tip money! It is not allowed for our techs to receive extra money. A great compliment to a workplace is to search their business on Google & leave them a review instead of leaving a tip! Reviews on Google & Facebook help promote their business!
We know money can be tight person to person. Especially when it comes to a big ole’ job! From new toilets to even sewer line replacements! Our policy here at Carter’s is to give you a price before the delivery of work is done! That way, you can decided if the work/price is right for you!
Another way to promote a business like Carter’s is to share the content they post on social media! Sharing, Retweeting, & even Liking post can help recommend the business to other potential customers. Sharing is free publicizing & promoting! So, if being tipped is a no-no to a service, these methods are extremely welcomed instead!
What Services are You Supposed to Tip
Again, it kind of varies place to place & job to job. But, your curiosity is right & nice. There are certain workers that expect a tip! Person(s) like:
- Waiters/Waitresses
- Parking Attendants
- Bathroom Attendants
- Salon Workers
- Taxi/Uber Drivers
- Delivery Drivers
- Movers
These workers make majority of their money on tips. Some getting paid as little as $2.50/hr. Do not forget to tip them correspondingly. A great gesture is giving extra money since the Christmas is close. Here is a guide on how to tip certain workers.
